05:35 “We must stand tall as the star of Korean swimming’s butterfly stroke”
Breaking the 8-year-old men's high school 100m record and opening a new competition

Donga Swimming's ' butterfly powerhouse ' Kim Young-beom, who won the men's 400m medley relay in last year's Games, said, "I will improve my freestyle skills and add strength to the relay."

Kim Young-beom (Gangwon Sports High School), who won the championship, is competing in the men's high school 100m butterfly race at the Dong-A Swimming Championships on the 10th. Kim Young-beom, who won this event with a competition record of 52.47 seconds, was the first to touch the touchpad in the 200m individual medley on the 12th and won two gold medals in the competition.

“I hope the record I set this time will remain for a long time.”

Kim Young-beom (18, 3rd year at Gangwon Sports High School, photo), who won the championship in the men's high school 100m butterfly final at the 96th Donga Swimming Championships held at the Gimcheon Indoor Swimming Pool in Gyeongsangbuk-do with a competition record (52.47 seconds), said, “I looked at the Donga Swimming Competition booklet. “There are records that have not been broken for over 40 years,” he said.

On this day, Kim Young-beom beat his previous competition record by 0.48 seconds, setting a new record for the first time in 8 years. The previous high school 100m butterfly competition record was 52.95 seconds set by Yang Jae-hoon (26), who was a third year student at Gyeongnam Sports High School in 2016. Jaehoon Yang, who won the gold medal in the 800m relay at the Hangzhou Asian Games last year, holds the Korean record for the men's 100m butterfly (51.85 seconds), and Youngbeom Kim surpassed Jaehoon Yang in high school.

Kim Young-beom, who is 195cm tall, has a wingspan of 213cm, which is the distance between his fingertips when his arms are spread side by side. When Kim Young-beom was in his third year of middle school, he grew 15 cm tall and became 189 cm tall, and began to attract attention. Last year, when he was in his second year of high school, he won a silver medal as a butterfly swimmer for the men's 400m medley relay team at the Hangzhou Asian Games. He was unable to wear the Taegeuk mark as he finished second behind Kim Ji-hoon (24, Daejeon City Hall) in the 100m butterfly at the national team selection event for the Paris Olympics held in March this year. Kim Young-beom said, “I am still young. There is a lot to learn. “I will start again, step by step,” he said.

Kim Young-beom, with his long arms and outstanding ability to catch the water, is regarded as one of the top runners in Korea not only in butterfly strokes but also in other strokes. This is also the reason why the Korean swimming world believes that Kim Young-beom has great growth potential. Kim Young-beom, who started swimming at the age of 7, initially focused on backstroke. Kim Young-beom said, “Korean swimming is evaluated to have reached a renaissance by taking a leap forward through the Asian Games last year, but there is still no athlete who can be considered a star in the butterfly event.” He added, “I will become a representative athlete representing Korea in butterfly, which is my main event. “I want to improve my skills in the freestyle and grow into a world-class athlete, and also do my best in the 800m relay,” he said.

On the 12th, Kim Young-beom won the 200m individual medley , which involves 50m of water each in the order of butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle, by being the first to hit the touchpad with a record of 2 minutes 5.18 seconds, earning his second gold medal in this competition. 섯다
